Titans head coach Robert Saleh says his team will not hold a fire sale before the trade deadline. But the offer they received from the Bears for defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons was too good to pass up. The Bears traded their next two first-round picks to the Titans for Simmons, and Saleh said a team in the Titans’ position couldn’t really have passed that up. said. “And finally a team threw a big enough hook that I don’t think any of us could have said no.” Saleh said he considers Simmons “by far” the best defensive tackle in the NFL and hates to see him go. “It’s tough. Jeff is an elite soccer player and he’s an even better person,” Saleh said. “He’s an elite leader. I’ve been upfront about it. It sucks. Everything about it sucks. Unfortunately, it’s necessary.” Saleh declined to answer when asked what he said to Simmons before leaving the Titans facility for the final time. “I’ll keep that between me and him,” Saleh said. “A very, very, very difficult conversation.” It was a difficult decision for the Titans, but it may turn out to be the right decision in the long run. Those two first-round picks can help the Titans build a winning team, something they don’t have right now.
