ELK GROVE, Calif. — Two students were taken to the hospital after being stabbed Wednesday at Pleasant Grove High School in Elk Grove, according to police. The Elk Grove Police Department said two teenagers, ages 15 and 16, were arrested and both are high school students. One of them is a student at Pleasant Grove High, while the other attended a different high school in Elk Grove, according to police. Police said the stabbing was reported around 3:45 p.m. A school resource officer arrived to find school staff providing first aid to both victims, who were outside a bathroom near the gym. The officer joined the life-saving efforts until the students were taken to the hospital. When other officers arrived on the scene, they found and detained the teenage suspects in a neighborhood just south of the school. Police said a fight occurred in the school bathroom when one of the suspects pulled out a knife and stabbed both students. One victim remains hospitalized and is recovering from his injuries, which are no longer life-threatening. The second victim also remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. A knife was recovered at the scene. Both suspects were booked into the Juvenile Center on charges of attempted murder. The high school and the adjacent campus, Katherine Albiani High School, were placed on precautionary closures, which have since been lifted. The Elk Grove Unified School District said students had already been released by the day the stabbing occurred. Pleasant Grove High School said all activities on both campuses were canceled Wednesday night. School officials said there will be increased law enforcement on campus Thursday along with a district crisis team available to support students and staff “who may need to talk about what happened.” See more coverage of California’s top stories here | Download our application | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel.
