The Milwaukee Brewers put on a masterclass in every facet of the game, beating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 to win their first World Series title in franchise history in five games on Wednesday at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. In a game where both teams’ aces faced off, it was Brewers’ Cy Young candidate Jacob Misiorowski who bested Rays’ ace Drew Rasmussen. The NL Cy Young leader went 5 2/3 innings, striking out two and allowing just two hits before exiting the game with an apparent leg cramp. Rasmussen was pulled after four innings with a short rest and a reported pitch count of 60. The real story was the Brewers’ offense, especially rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt. Pratt started the scoring in the second inning with an RBI single, scoring Brice Turang. And Milwaukee never looked back. That wasn’t the only notable thing Pratt did: He made a bit of World Series history with his single. It was his sixth consecutive at-bat with a hit, the most by a rookie in Fall Classic history. But it was in the sixth inning when things went up a little more. William Contreras’ RBI double scored a run and he would later score on Pratt’s sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 4-0. The Rays bullpen was able to settle in, using seven total pitchers, but Tampa’s offense was fast asleep until Liam Hicks and Chandler Simpson doubled in the ninth inning for the Rays, making the score 4-1. Contreras was named World Series MVP after hitting .381 with four RBIs. The Brewers will now bring a World Series title to Wisconsin.
