Steam Frame moves one step closer to launch as Valve’s VR headset receives FCC certification

Valve has already launched two of the three hardware products it announced last year. The Steam Machine and the Steam Controller are now available to purchase, but fans are still waiting for the third product, the Steam Frame. While Valve has yet to reveal exactly when the headset will launch, a new regulatory filing suggests that the wait may not be much longer.

The Steam Frame has now received FCC (Federal Communications Commission) certification, an important step that every wireless consumer electronics product must complete before it can legally be sold in the United States. This doesn’t confirm an exact release date, but it does indicate that the headset is much closer to reaching the market.

According to recently published FCC documents, the Steam Frame, listed under model number 1015, has officially cleared the required certification process. The paperwork shows that testing for the device began back in May, but the documents only became publicly available after the FCC granted its official approval. Since products that use wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or radio signals require this certification, Valve could not legally begin selling the headset in the US before receiving it.

While FCC approval does not guarantee an immediate launch, it is often one of the final regulatory hurdles before a product reaches consumers. Valve has not commented on the certification or shared any new information about when the Steam Frame will become available, but this development is a positive sign for those who have been waiting.

It is, however, important to keep in mind that the company released the Steam Machine not long after it received its own FCC approval, leading some to speculate that the Steam Frame could follow a similar timeline. If that happens, the headset could potentially arrive sometime in the coming weeks, although Valve has not confirmed anything.
