Protests, marches unfolding across French cities as police seek to prevent violence

2 hours agoLarge crowds gather in Paris, France, as the main protest march takes place. Fox News correspondent Jonathan Hunt reported Saturday that thousands of people have gathered in Paris, France, as the main protest march takes place in the French capital. “This is a protest, it started obviously, about educational standards. High school students were leading the protests. Now it has become a much larger protest about the cost of living, the problems of the French economy and dissatisfaction, particularly among young people, but also the fears of older generations, pensions, etc., because the French economy is in a lot of trouble,” Hunt told “Fox & Friends Weekend.” “So this is what we’re seeing now. What so far is a peaceful march. Obviously, the big concern here is what happened last week, on October 17, when we saw this type of protest turn into violent riots in the last few hours, thousands of businesses across France, not just in Paris, but in cities all over France, were severely damaged and there was so much looting,” Hunt continued. “What nobody wants is for that to happen again. The people, the groups that are leading these protests don’t want that to happen, they know that their cause was hijacked by those who simply wanted to commit acts of violence,” Hunt also said. “They hope that doesn’t happen again today. But we’re in the early stages of this. Remember, in these situations, it’s always in the last few hours that that type of activity tends to break out and you see the fires, you see the violence, you see the looting that we saw so much last week.”
