Two North Carolinians dead from West Nile Virus :: WRAL.com

Two adults from Central North Carolina have died from the West Nile Virus this year.

The Centers for Disease Control reports 11 more cases in the state this year.

Dr Cameron Wolfe, an infectious disease expert with Duke Health, said if you get West Nile, you probably won’t know it.

Possible symptoms the CDC lists are flu-like, such as a fever with headache, body aches, joint pains, vomiting, diarrhea, or rash.

The CDC recommends preventing mosquito bites as the best way to protect yourself and loved ones.

You can also use an insect repellent, wear loose fitting shirts and pants, and avoid being outside between dusk and dawn when the mosquitoes that spread West Nile virus are most active.
