iPhone Duo buyers to get a special surprise at U.S. Apple Stores, Gurman says

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, iPhone Duo buyers who purchase their device at an Apple Store in the US will get a nice little surprise when they power it on for the first time. Here are the details. Cool surprise for in-store shoppers When Apple releases the iPhone Duo on October 23, some customers who purchase the device at an Apple Store in the US will be able to personalize their initial setup screen with their name. According to Gurman, “Apple stores will have a system to customize device startup,” allowing the iPhone Duo to display a greeting containing your name when it is turned on for the first time. Gurman says the feature will be exclusive to the iPhone Duo and will be supported in both English and Spanish. A fun little detail for the launch of the iPhone Duo: Apple stores will have a system to personalize the boot of the device with the buyer’s name so that it says “Hi, Mark” (for example) when it is turned on for the first time. (US only, Duo only, English and Spanish.) — Mark Gurman (@markgurman) October 9, 2026 It’s unclear how Apple will implement the feature or whether it will rely on Presto, the system Apple Stores already use to update iPhones wirelessly without removing them from their boxes. Presto, first reported by Gurman in 2023, allows Apple retail employees to turn on an iPhone, install software updates, and turn it off again, all while the device remains sealed in its packaging. Returning to the iPhone Duo, it will be available for pre-order starting Friday, October 16, with delivery and in-store availability starting October 23. Apple recently announced that customers will be able to pre-order the iPhone Duo starting October 12, and you can read more about that here. Are you thinking about buying an iPhone Duo?
