MARBLE HILL, Manhattan (WABC) — A man in a vehicle was shot during an ICE operation in Upper Manhattan on Thursday, according to officials. It happened shortly after 4 pm in the Marble Hill neighborhood of upper Manhattan. Multiple shots were fired during what was believed to be an ICE operation, according to a city official. They say the person was in the vehicle at the time of the shooting and that a child, believed to be a boy around 5 years old, was in the back seat. He emerged unharmed. At the time of the shooting, ICE agents were attempting to detain a person who was being investigated for ties to migrants involving the shooting of an off-duty customs officer in Fort Washington Park in July 2025. Two Dominican citizens involved in the case were sentenced in federal court earlier this week, while state charges are still pending. prior criminal conviction for grand larceny and multiple prior arrests for assault, robbery, drug possession and weapons possession.” They confirmed that an ICE officer discharged his weapon, injuring the man. The NYPD said the shooting involved federal law enforcement officers, and that NYPD members were not involved in the incident and were not on the scene at the time of the shooting. Lawmakers and immigration activists react to the shooting The shooting has prompted a swift reaction from local politicians, including Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Gov. Kathy Hochul. The mayor said he called the president and will demand an end to ICE’s actions when they speak, saying, “I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities. Our thoughts are with the injured New Yorker and his family tonight. We are praying for his recovery. Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE off our streets. Abolish ICE. Hochul calls for “total transparency” from federal authorities. “I have been made aware of this afternoon’s shooting involving federal law enforcement officers in the Bronx,” Hochul said in the statement posted on social media. “We look forward to federal authorities providing a full and transparent explanation of the circumstances surrounding this incident.
