Timberline High School class walk out after violent threats made to female student

BOISE, Idaho — Students at Timberline High School walked out of class today in response to violent threats against a female student. Boise police confirmed to CBS2/FOX9 that officers are investigating a change.org petition that alleges members of the Timberline High School football team threatened rape and murder against a specific student. Police officials said in their response that those involved in the alleged group chat are known to school resource officers and BPD investigators. The Boise School District and Timberline High School announced they will postpone upcoming homecoming events in light of violent threats toward a student allegedly by members of the football team. The announcement came days before a scheduled football game against Kuna High School. Some of the students spoke to CBS2/FOX9 during the walkout. This is what some of them said. It’s important that we highlight these situations so we can overcome them, to raise more awareness and make sure people don’t feel left out when they go through things like this. If you see something, you should say something. We shouldn’t stay silent just because your friend made a joke, or because it was taken out of context, because what context is going to save a situation like this? I think (the incident) brought a lot of shame to our school knowing that we have the type of people here who, you know, will commit those acts of violence against others. And, you know, that’s what we’re doing here, protesting that and trying to make sure that we’re not defending a system that will silence victims’ voices. The Boise School District also responded to another series of questions posed by CBS2/FOX9. Q: When the district referred to “threats of violence” yesterday, was that a reference to the original social media posts, or have there been additional threats or safety concerns? A: Both. Since the information became public over the weekend, our administrators and Boise Police have been informed of threats from people outside of the school (mostly anonymous and through social media) made against several people and the football team. Q: Has the district been able to begin its own investigation yet, or is it still on hold while Boise police investigate? A: Boise Police gave us the go-ahead to begin our own investigation this afternoon. Since the Title IX complaint was filed, we have been able to work through that process, including supportive measures for the complainant as outlined in Board policies, including 3275 and 3232. Even if the police investigation does not lead to criminal charges, the district’s investigation continues independently. The laws governing criminal conduct and school policies are separate and distinct. A situation that does not meet the legal threshold for criminal charges may still constitute a violation of school policy, which carries different standards and possible administrative outcomes. Q: Is the district aware of the strike (October 7, 2026) and how will Timberline handle participating students during the school day? A: We knew it was planned and that we had additional security and law enforcement, as we have all week. Since this was not a school-sponsored activity, students who did not attend class are marked absent, just as they would be if they were absent from class for any other non-school related activity. Q: Will there be additional security at Timberline on October 7, 2026 due to the strike or the broader situation? A: Yes. There has been additional police support at the school throughout the week.
