The NFL scheduled the Saints to host the Falcons on Monday night to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Superdome reopening after Hurricane Katrina. It was a great night in New Orleans and the Saints didn’t match the energy of the fans. Saints head coach Kellen Moore said after the 45-24 loss that the team came out flat despite the emotion of the moment. “Really disappointing game for us,” Moore said. “The Dome was an incredible night, incredible energy. I did a poor job preparing our soccer team. I didn’t train well enough, I didn’t play well enough. It wasn’t good enough. We are where we are, a 1-3 soccer team with some good moments but not consistent enough to be where we ultimately want to be. We have a lot of work to do.” Moore said he addressed the historical significance of the game with his team and thought they accepted that this was a particularly important game. But when it came time to put it all together, they didn’t. “We talked about it earlier in the week, the guys were excited,” Moore said. “I thought there was good energy, we just didn’t execute well enough.” The Saints saw the much-discussed nationally televised game as a great opportunity to show what kind of team they are, and they didn’t show much. “Those are great opportunities,” Moore said. “It’s just disappointing for us and I know there’s frustration for everyone.”
