SBI agent shot while searching for man in Reidsville; suspect charged, officials sayREIDSVILLE, N.C. —A North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) agent is receiving treatment after being shot in the leg in Reidsville, according to the agency. SBI officials said the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance after Marvin White, 38, allegedly shot two deputies in the 800 block of Walker Street. According to arrest warrants, officers responded to reports that White was shooting randomly from a white Lexus on a road near a church. The warrants also allege that White threatened a man with a gun and stole his phone and car keys. White allegedly threatened to shoot the man as well. After neighbors contacted police, White exchanged gunfire with officers before fleeing, warrants show. SBI agents responded and began searching the area. Investigators determined White may have entered a crawl space under a home. Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, owned by Hearst. As agents gathered additional equipment to search the crawl space, White allegedly began shooting, striking an SBI agent in the leg. The officer returned fire, according to authorities. The officer was taken to a hospital and was expected to undergo surgery to repair damage to his leg. He is a 10-year veteran of the SBI who serves on the agency’s Special Response Team and works in the Northern Piedmont District. No officers were injured. White was taken into custody. Rockingham County Detectives charged him with: Two counts of Attempted First Degree Murder 2 counts of Assault with a Firearm on Law Enforcement Personnel Going Armed to Terrorize People Assault Pointing a Gun Communicating Threats Felony Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon Felony Discharging a Firearm to Incite Fear Felony Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle Felony Larceny After Breaking into a Vehicle The SBI also charged White with: Felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. inflicting serious injury Felony attempted first-degree murder Felony assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm He is being held in the Rockingham County Jail without bond.
