Insomniac Games has released a new update for Marvel’s Wolverine that adds an option to disable those controversial scent trails on collectibles. Developer Sony made good on its promise to investigate a proper on/off option when version 1,001,006 was released just a few hours ago. The patch notes reveal more specific changes as the studio irons out remaining issues that have arisen in the days since the release of Marvel’s Wolverine for PlayStation 5. There are three new toggle settings that players can now use to customize their gameplay experience: one for the Whiskey Bottle scent trails, one for the Material Crate audio tracks, and one for Nightmare Door Roots. Those first two proved to be an especially hot topic online, with players criticizing the game’s tracks as one of the few examples of a game many consider too “manageable.” Adding the option to completely disable these guides should ease those concerns, with a toggle for Nightmare Door Roots adding even more freedom for players to tailor their Marvel’s Wolverine experience to their liking. The new switches are pretty simple. If players find the wavy images too distracting, they can simply turn them off. As noted in the game settings, using Wolverine’s Crate Finder and Whiskey Finder adaptations will override any inverted switches. The update also addresses some bugs reported by the community, as well as some annoying bugs. For example, one of the most common issues fans may have seen in viral clips online was Logan getting his claws caught sliding down a tree early in the game. Insomniac said that should be fixed now, and that an issue related to misaligned claws in photo mode has also been fixed. Another bug fix described in the patch notes involves some strange signs in the bathroom. Players feared signs suggested Insomniac had used generative AI on Marvel’s Wolverine before the studio stepped in to deny the allegations with an explanation. They won’t be an eyesore in the future. All of Marvel’s Wolverine Suits Instead of fans spending their time talking about the new Wolverine game’s mutant-filled story or its bloody action, the conversation surrounding the release of the new PS5 exclusive mostly revolved around things like scent trails for collectibles, a motorcycle chase sequence, and ‘fart gas.’ Although the new update may make it more difficult to search and find whiskey bottles and material boxes, story-based scent trails and senses, like the one that allows Logan to track Jean in the mission The One That Got Away, will remain regardless of toggled settings. On that front, Insomniac has taken steps to make the story’s scent trails a little less intrusive. Last week’s update reduced the trail’s opacity, effectively weakening the so-called fart gas without completely removing it from the experience. Marvel’s Wolverine launched for PS5 on September 15, 2026. In the wake of controversy surrounding certain mechanics and features, Insomniac said it would keep its eye on the ground when it came to community feedback. It’s a message that the studio’s director of community and marketing, James Stevenson, repeated after the new update. “As I said, we continue to listen and work with the team to address comments and requests,” he said on X/Twitter.
