Click here to view Damage could be seen when concrete barriers on Illinois Route 53 broke away and fell onto Palatine Road, closing the street. There were no reports of injuries, but Palatine Road was closed near Winston Drive. “Palatine Road is currently closed in both directions in the area of Route 53 due to a traffic hazard,” Palatine police said in an update. “Palatine Police have closed the road at Palatine Road and Winston Drive. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use alternative routes.” Illinois State Police confirmed the collapse and said crews were expected to work for several hours Sunday afternoon to replace the concrete barrier while the highway remains closed.
