At BlizzCon 2026, I was present at a Diablo 5 press conference with several of the game’s design leads. Near the end, a question was asked about what platforms the game would be available on, as none had been announced alongside the game’s reveal. Game director Joe Shely responded by saying that they had nothing to announce, but that they “want as many people as possible to be able to play Diablo 5.” Then something strange happened. From the corner of the room, one of the PR and communications people (I couldn’t see who from where I was sitting) whispered loudly, “PC version.” There was a bit of laughter. “You’re not supposed to tell him!” Shely said, jokingly. “If we are not on the PC, we have problems,” they responded. So I guess Diablo 5 is coming to PC? But also, like…why act secretive about it? Why not just say that during BlizzCon? Even if you don’t want to announce which consoles it will be on yet, if any, the PC, at the very least, seems like such an obvious place to put Diablo that you barely need to confirm it. At this point it is assumed automatically. This gets even stranger when you combine it with the fact that StarCraft, a game that’s even further away than Diablo 5 by at least a year, also received exactly one very strange platform confirmation: it’s confirmed for Xbox, via the Xbox UK X account of all things. That information was not published anywhere else. As far as I know, no one mentioned it at BlizzCon. That? Because? Why haven’t we also confirmed a PC version of that game? A new StarCraft game was REVEALED at the Blizzcon opening ceremony AND is coming to the XBOX console. This new Starcraft is an open world science fiction shooter set 70 years after Starcraft II in the Terran Koprulu Sector | Powered by #XBOXON pic.twitter.com/TNnaUK3I7A — I followed up with them afterwards to see what they had to say about the PC and Xbox platform announcements for each respective game, and I’ll update when I hear back. I don’t think any of this is a huge conspiracy of any kind; I just think it’s weird. It’s weird! It’s strange to pretend that Diablo 5 and StarCraft won’t be on PC, when the entire history of both franchises is there. It’s strange to announce the Xbox release of a game coming in 2030, but not one coming in 2029, unless you don’t plan to put the 2029 game on Xbox, which Xbox almost certainly intends to do. I didn’t really expect them to say anything about PlayStation here, admittedly, but given that Diablos 1-4 are all available on a Sony console somewhere, it seems like a crazy move to leave that large portion of the Diablo-loving audience worried that they might be excluded in spring 2029. So, yes, I can confirm that Diablo 5 is coming to PC. I don’t know who was worried that wouldn’t happen, but if it did, please rest easy tonight. I have no idea when we’ll learn more about anything else (I asked Blizzard that too).
