Sony has released a new system software update for PlayStation 5 that makes a number of interesting changes. Version 26.06-14.00.00 enables Improve PSSR Image Quality as the default setting. The PS5 Pro-exclusive feature is used even for games that support the older version of PSSR, “so you can enjoy a sharper and clearer visual experience,” Sony said in a post on its website. You can disable it if you wish. Elsewhere, you can now see who’s talking while you’re in a voice chat by turning on Display Names (details on how to enable this are in the patch notes, below). You can even choose where the speaker indicator appears on your screen. The 100 Best PlayStation Games of All Time Here’s an interesting one: the update lets you see current trends and top 10s through the community activity widget in your Welcome Center. Trending Now shows 10 multiplayer games or modes that are “gaining popularity,” Sony said. It seems like the intention here is to show off new game releases or games with big updates. Meanwhile, Top 10 shows the 10 most popular games of the last week for your country or region. This isn’t information that Sony typically provides publicly, so it will be interesting to see what ends up on the list. However, we do not know how the list is determined. Is it the total number of players during the period? Is it due to peaks in attendance? Play time? “Look here to see which games have a large community of players you can join,” Sony said. PS5 System Software Update Version 26.06-14.00.00 Patch Notes: We have enabled Improve PSSR Image Quality as the default setting. When you update the system software, this setting is enabled automatically. When you enable this feature, Enhanced PSSR is used even for games that support the older version of PSSR, so you can enjoy a sharper and clearer visual experience. To disable this setting, go to Settings > Display & video > Video output > Improve PSSR image quality. This feature is only available on PS5 Pro. You can now see who is speaking while you are in a voice chat. To display the speakerphone indicator, go to the voice chat card in the control center. Select More > Show who’s speaking and turn on Show names. To choose where the speaker indicator appears on your screen, select Position. We’ve added the Community Activity widget to your Welcome Center. You can switch between the following views. Trending Now shows ten multiplayer games or multiplayer modes that are gaining popularity. Look here for new game releases or games with major content updates. Top 10 shows the ten most popular games of the last week in your country or region. Look here to see which games have a large community of players you can join. We have changed the following features for PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles in certain countries or regions. If you go to Settings > Accessories > General > Advanced Settings and select Turn off Bluetooth, your console does not enter sleep mode and HDMI Device Link does not work. The Bluetooth Disable feature is used to manage controller connections in e-sports venues and similar locations. Do not use this feature for any other purpose. We have improved the performance and stability of system software. And, since we don’t want to be left out, the PS4 also has a system software update today, although don’t expect any revelations in the patch notes. Version 14.00 improves “system software performance and stability.” Sony, you really spoiled us with these patch notes.
