A major water main break is affecting 50,000 customers in Cary and Morrisville on Monday. Many Cary and Morrisville schools will close early as a precaution as water pressure at more than 20 schools is affected by the break. See below for a complete list of schools closing early. Water fountains and bottle filling stations are closed at affected schools. Local spray areas in parks are also closed. The city of Cary said the 30-inch water main break occurred in the early morning hours. The issue affects approximately 50,000 customers in the “central pressure zone,” which covers most of Cary. © Town of Cary A photo from the WRAL Breaking News Tracker showed part of a washed-out embankment near a drainage structure, with dirt and concrete covering the road. © WRAL Early Monday morning, the city reported that NC Highway 55 was closed in both directions between the Jenks Road/Old Jenks Road intersection and the Lewey Drive/Turner Creek Road intersection. By 11:00 a.m., one lane in each direction had reopened. Customers affected by the water supply interruption are advised to vigorously boil water for one minute before using it for drinking, cooking or brushing teeth.
