Apple has officially announced the iPhone Duo, its first device with a foldable screen. Additionally, the company has detailed how third-party apps will work with the larger screen. This includes three modes for apps targeting iOS 26, iOS 27.0, and iOS 27.1. iOS 27.1 adds full support for the iPhone Duo app for the foldable display. It snaps to the single app view in a safe area around a black background. For apps updated for iOS 27, the default mode takes much better advantage of the iPhone Duo screen. Here’s what it looks like: There’s still unused white space, but it’s much better than apps before iOS 27. Then there’s full compatibility mode. The iPhone Duo arrives in October and by then we will also have iOS 27.1. Apps built for iOS 27.1 will make the most of the iPhone Duo screen.
