A drowning was reported in Falls Lake on Monday afternoon. WRAL’s breaking news tracker is at the lake and volunteers are working with lifeguards to help search the beach. Park officials told WRAL that a section of the beach was closed, but there are still many people swimming in the lake as crews search the area by boat and on foot. Several witnesses were seen holding hands and forming a chain to enter the water and search for the swimmer. The Wake County Sheriff’s Department responded around 2:30 p.m. to reports of a swimmer drowning near the 14600 block of Creedmoor Road, near Sandling Beach. Multiple agencies responded to the call, including Wake County EMS, Northern Wake Fire Department and Wake Forest Fire Department.
