Authorities say two people are dead after at least six people, including two police officers, were shot in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday afternoon. A source confirmed that the suspect committed suicide. A source told KSTP that Minneapolis officers were called to the apartment early Wednesday for a disturbance involving the same suspect. A City Hall source told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that one officer was shot in the stomach and another in the leg. The officer who was shot in the stomach was in surgery but in stable condition at 6:45 p.m. The other officer who was shot received non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery. What we know Around 4:36 p.m., officers were called to the Loring Tower apartment building near 15 East Grant Street after it was reported that someone had been shot, according to a Minneapolis Police Department spokesperson. The first officers entered the apartment building around 4:39 p.m. and also saw several victims on the ground. As officers followed the sound of gunshots to an upper floor, visibility from the fog became limited and two officers were shot while another was wounded. The other two injured are currently in the hospital. It’s unclear how the third officer was injured, but interim Minneapolis Police Chief Bill Peterson said he expects them to make a full recovery.
