Everton’s signing of Folarin Balogun was canceled after the US men’s national team striker decided not to make the transfer. The Premier League side had renegotiated a deal for Balogun with his club Monaco after issues arose during the 25-year-old’s medical. Everton have submitted an agreement sheet, a document submitted to the Premier League that guarantees the club an extra two-hour “grace period” to secure a transfer after the league’s 11pm BST deadline. (6 p.m. ET), to complete the transfer on Tuesday night, but Balogun opted not to proceed with the move and left his Finch Farm training camp unsigned. Everton had agreed a deal with Monaco for Balogun on Monday, only for doubts to grow over the move as the deadline progressed. The Merseyside side then made an offer to Manchester United for Joshua Zirzkee, but it was rejected, with the Old Trafford side feeling they did not have enough time to find a replacement for their striker. Everton and Monaco continued talks over Balogun and the English club remained hopeful of completing a deal for the player, seeking to renegotiate a lower fixed fee with higher bonuses. Balogun would consist of an initial €45 million (£38.58 million; $52.3 million) plus €5 million (£4.3 million; $5.8 million) in potential add-ons agreed between the two clubs, while Everton sources had said the deal was worth around £40 million ($54 million; €46.7 million).
