Jenna Ellis and Sydney Powell, attorneys for former President Donald Trump, held a press conference at the Republican National Committee on November 19, 2020, to discuss lawsuits challenging the 2020 presidential election results. Recently, former Trump campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis has agreed to assist Arizona prosecutors in their criminal cases against individuals accused of attempting to overturn Trump’s 2020 election defeat, according to state Attorney General Kris Mayes. In return for her cooperation, prosecutors have dropped nine felony charges against Ellis, including fraud, forgery, and conspiracy.
“This cooperation marks a crucial advancement in our case,” Mayes stated, expressing gratitude for Ellis’s assistance. “Her insights are invaluable and will significantly help the State in court. As I emphasized when the charges were first announced, I will not permit the undermining of American democracy. Today’s development is a victory for the rule of law.”
The remaining defendants include Rudy Giuliani, former New York City mayor and Trump ally, and other notable figures such as former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, and lawyers John Eastman, Boris Epshteyn, Christina Bobb, and Mike Roman, who managed Election Day operations for Trump in 2020. Additionally, 11 Trump supporters accused of posing as fake electors are also charged: Kelli Ward, Tyler Bowyer, Nancy Cottle, Jacob Hoffman, Anthony Kern, James Lamon, Robert Montgomery, Samuel Moorhead, Lorraine Pellegrino, Gregory Safsten, and Michael Ward.
The Arizona indictment claims that Ellis and other Trump associates were involved in a scheme where these 11 individuals falsely presented themselves as Arizona electors to the 2020 Electoral College, casting their votes for Trump despite Biden winning the state’s popular vote.
Following the announcement of her cooperation, Ellis’s lawyers, Matt Brown and Matt Melito, released a statement on social media platform X, expressing relief that the charges against her were dismissed, as she was not involved in the fake elector scheme. They emphasized her ongoing willingness to tell the truth.
As part of the agreement, Ellis is required to provide complete and truthful testimony whenever requested by the Attorney General’s Office and be available for interviews by attorneys and law enforcement.
In October 2023, Ellis pleaded guilty to a separate charge in the Georgia election interference case, which involves Trump and several allies accused of attempting to overturn his loss in Georgia. A Georgia appeals court has temporarily halted the case against Trump and eight co-defendants while it reviews Trump’s request to disqualify Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from overseeing his prosecution.
Following her guilty plea in Georgia, Colorado officials banned Ellis from practicing law in the state for three years. Giuliani was disbarred in New York in July, and his license is under review in Washington, D.C., due to the false claims of widespread ballot fraud he made with Ellis after the 2020 election.
