MINNEAPOLIS — The Chicago White Sox’s struggles continued unabated as they fell 13-7 to the Minnesota Twins on Sunday afternoon, marking their 20th consecutive loss and suffering their sixth straight series sweep. This latest defeat extends the White Sox’s franchise-record losing streak to 20 games, placing them among the longest losing streaks in MLB history, alongside the Baltimore Orioles (21 games in 1988) and the Philadelphia Phillies (23 games in 1961).
“It’s a tough situation,” said White Sox Manager Pedro Grifol. “You can either let it consume you or use it as motivation to push forward. There’s no changing what happened today. We need to stay focused and keep pushing.”
The Sox’s winless streak in Minnesota has reached 0-7 for the season, a feat not seen since 1981. They remain winless since the All-Star break, now sitting at 0-16.
Chicago center fielder Luis Robert Jr. shared his thoughts on the ongoing adversity: “It’s extremely difficult, but we have to keep coming in every day and striving to win games.”
Sunday’s loss saw the White Sox (27-87) joining the 1916 Philadelphia Athletics as the only teams to lose 87 or more games within the first 114 games of a season. Despite the setback, Grifol commended his team’s resilience in clawing back from an 8-0 deficit, though the mood in the locker room was reflective of their historical struggles.
“The guys gave their all after falling behind early,” Grifol noted. “That’s a testament to their character. We must continue to play the right way and not let this define us as we head to Oakland.”
The game also highlighted control issues for starter Chris Flexen, who struggled with command, allowing three walks that contributed to a 3-0 deficit for the Sox. Flexen had one of his roughest outings of the season, surrendering a season-high eight runs (six earned) in just 1 2/3 innings. His performance against the Twins has been notably challenging, and he remains winless in his last 16 starts since May 8.
